Video Summary is a browser extension developed by Jose M. Gilgado. It helps you summarize a selected YouTube video using your own NotebookLM account. The extension sends that source and a summary request to Google, and saves a copy of the result in your browser. It has no developer-operated data collection server or analytics tracker.

What the extension handles
On YouTube, the extension reads the current video URL, video ID, and title to show the correct controls and find an existing summary. When you request a summary, it stores:
- The selected video’s canonical URL, ID, and title.
- The associated NotebookLM URL and source identifier.
- The generated summary text.
- Task identifiers, browser tab identifiers, progress, errors, and timestamps needed to run or recover that request.
In its working NotebookLM tab, the extension reads the page controls and content needed to create the notebook, import the source, submit the request, and retrieve the response. It does not query your general browsing history or inventory unrelated notebooks for a separate purpose. The extension does not read or export passwords, authentication cookies, or account tokens.
Why and where data is used
When you click Summarize, the extension opens NotebookLM in the same browser profile and operates its normal website interface. The video URL, a notebook title based on the video, and a summary prompt are submitted to Google over HTTPS. Google imports the source, generates the response, and retains the notebook and conversation according to your account settings and Google’s policies. See the Google Privacy Policy.
The extension saves a local copy of the summary and task data using the browser’s chrome.storage.local storage. This allows you to revisit summaries, reopen notebooks, and avoid duplicate requests. The extension does not use browser sync storage. Local data is subject to your browser’s and device’s protections; the extension does not add its own encryption layer.
Sharing and limited use
The developer does not automatically receive your selected videos, notebook contents, summaries, or browsing activity. The extension does not sell data, use it for advertising, transfer it to data brokers, or use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions.
Use and transfer of data handled by Video Summary are limited to its user-requested summarization feature, caching, and recovery, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy’s Limited Use requirements. The developer has no remote access to your local summaries or Google notebooks. If you choose to share specific information for support, it is used to address that support request.
Retention and deletion
Local summary and task data remains in the browser profile until you remove the extension’s stored data or uninstall it. There is no automatic expiry in this version. You can read a saved summary by reopening its video and selecting Summarize, or use Open notebook to view the corresponding source and conversation.
Uninstalling the extension does not delete notebooks or conversations from Google. Manage or delete those separately in NotebookLM. The developer cannot delete data from your device or Google account on your behalf.
Support correspondence
If you contact [email protected], the developer receives the email address, message, and any attachments you voluntarily provide through the support mailbox. That information is used to respond to your request. You can request deletion of your support correspondence at the same address, subject to any applicable legal retention requirements.
Changes and contact
